Continuum Freestanding Mirror for BDI - 2005
The Continuum Mirror marked my first collaboration with BDI in 2005, during a period when the company was primarily focused on wall mirrors. My goal was to expand their offerings by creating a freestanding, multi-swivel mirror that would feel timeless, intuitive to use, and adaptable to a variety of interiors. The resulting design features a full-length mirror that appears to float within a bent steel frame, anchored by a weighted steel base for stability. I drew inspiration from works such as Jørgen Gammelgaard's Concept Chair No. 2 and Poul Kjaerholm's PK22 chair, both of which feature a clever arrangement of steel frame parts.
This modern interpretation of the classic cheval mirror offers effortless adjustment, making it a versatile addition to various settings. I was delighted to see this mirror featured on television shows such as Ugly Betty and Black-ish, where its presence became part of the visual dialogue in key scenes.
